Today marks the 98th birthday of one of Indonesia's oldest teams in the game. Persis Solo! The club was founded as Vorstenlandschen Voetbal Bond(VVB) in 1923 but goes by the name of Persis Solo since 1928. The club defends the honor of the city of Surakarta (Solo) in Central Java. A city well known for it's traditional cuisine, arts and culture, as well as batik. So who defends the honor of the city? Well you can count on Solo's Pasoepati and Surakartans to take care of that. A steady group of fans who manage to light up the 20,000 cap Manahan Stadium on a weekly basis.🏟️ We look very much forward to visiting a game in Manahan stadium and feel the atmosphere ourselves. It’s Super East Java Derby day! For many years Persebaya’s Bonek and Arema’s Aremania have been sworn enemies. The stories about the origins of this feud are disputable. Some claim it started in 1995 after the Nurkiman incident. Others point back to January 1990 when Arema fans flooded an Iwan Fals concert in Tabaksari Stadium. Causing a massive brawl both in and outside the stadium. Most recently(2020) fans of Persebaya and Arema took each other on in the streets and rice paddies of Blitar. A true derby that boils over in emotions. This year, unfortunately we won’t see any fans in the stadium to support their club. But we do expect fireworks from the players on the pitch.
