Finally, it’s that time again! The Liga 1 of Indonesia will be continued on the first of October. And we can’t wait!

The restart of the Shopee Liga 1 will take place on Thursday the 1st of October at Maguwoharjo Stadium in Sleman. Home team PSS Sleman will take on Persebaya Surabaya. For the first time in 7 months, Liga 1 players will enter the pitch to face each other. The rest of the fixtures will take place from Friday till Sunday.

All games of the remainder of the competition will be played on the island of Java and will take place without spectator’s. This is disappointing for all football supporters, but in the light of the current Covid-19 situation, it’s a logical step in the prevention of further spread of the virus.

After PSSI announced the official restart of the competition, many teams and players prepared both individually as collectively. A total of 13 Liga 1 clubs have chosen their stadium preference for the restart of the competition till the end of February.

There are nine locations chosen by Liga 1 clubs . Especially the teams outside Java, according to the rules of PT LIB, chose to be based in Yogyakarta and the surrounding areas in central Java.

The match schedule will be changed during the fifth week. From thereon, the games will be played after every two or three days and are held on weekdays instead of weekends.

PT LIB has made this decision with the aim of completing the competition by the end of February 2021.  Due to the tight planning, almost every club has little time to rest in between games. As the full competition is squeezed into a period of just five months (October 2020-February 2021). Another interesting fact is that there will be no teams relegating this season. But there will be two teams promoting from the Liga 2 to the highest tier of Indonesian football. Thus, in the 2021 season, the Liga 1 competition consists of 20 teams.
