A welcoming surprise in January! During the break between season 2019 and 2020, Persebaya organized a great game for their supporters in Gelora Bung Karno. They called it the Forever Persebaya Game, as the mighty Gelora Bung Tomo is ready for a big renovation, Persebaya wants to give their supporters one last party before the break.

Persebaya invited Persis Solo to be their opponent that day and the tickets were sold out within a few days! Luckily we got some good connections with supporters in Surabaya so we managed to get 3 tickets for the game. The flight from Denpasar to Surabaya is about one hour and we decided to take the morning flight the day before the game. A bit of sightseeing and visiting different fan shops to get ready for the game the next day.

The stadium is situated outside the city of Surabaya and there are no buildings surrounding it, you can already spot the immersive stadium from a far while taking the highway there.

We have been to Gelora Bung Tomo before but every time you enter the stadium you are surprised by the size of it. It was loaded with over 50.000 people and because the game was not part of the PSSI or Indonesian football association, so almost everything was allowed. We witnessed the most beautiful pyro party so far.

Passionate support from the supporters of Persebaya. Flares ignited across the whole stadium and people are cheering

At the end of the game, there was smoke everywhere and you couldn’t see more than 20 meters in front of you! An awesome experience followed by an impressive firework show.

The game ended in a 4-0 win for Persebaya. The opponent, Persis Solo is performing in Liga 2 at the moment but the club is bigger than you might expect! They brought over 2000 supporters who traveled hours to reach Surabaya on time and their support was impressive during the game.

The solo supporters were also very kind outside the stadium as we got some nice drinks from them during a nice chat about their local pride from Surakarta, Solo.

As they got a newly renovated stadium we are quite excited to visit them somewhere this year as well.
